Coked Out Cowboy - powdered sugar on top

Velveteen Rabbit in Las Vegas is one of those rare bars that makes every visit feel like stepping into a new chapter. The space itself feels like part of the story — warm lighting, mismatched vintage furniture, and whimsical details that make it feel more like an artist’s hideaway than a bar. It’s intimate but full of character, the kind of place where you immediately want to slow down and stay awhile.

I’ve been a few times now, and each experience has its own charm — but the summer “Passport” menu completely won me over.

The theme was clever and beautifully executed: each drink was inspired by a different culture, like a trip around the world in cocktail form. We tried Coked Out Cowboy, Wild Swan, Yamato, Chicha Morada, and Emerald of the Equator — each one unique, well-balanced, and full of personality.

Emerald of the Equator

The standout for me was Coked Out Cowboy. The presentation was both hilarious and brilliant — a dusting of “Coke” powder on top (actually powdered sugar) and a rolled-up rice paper dollar perched on the rim. It looked wild but was executed with so much intention.

The cocktail itself — a mix of bourbon, Coca-Cola gum syrup, Ciociaro, Grand Marnier, and cherry bark & vanilla bitters — completely took me by surprise. I wasn’t sure what to expect from that combination, but it was smooth, layered, and genuinely delicious. It reminded me how much creativity and thought goes into this craft — and how much I still have to learn (and taste) in the cocktail world.

The service was another highlight. The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their craft. Every recommendation felt thoughtful, and you could tell how much care went into each drink’s design and execution.

Christmas-themed drinks

I’ve also been for their Christmas-themed menu, which was festive, cozy, and full of playful surprises — but the Passport concept really stood out for how smartly it was put together. It’s the kind of experience that reminds you cocktails can be more than drinks; they can be adventures.
